Emilia Pickering has been learning cello and piano since she was 5. Currently studies cello with Tony Woollard at the Primary department of the Royal Academy of Music and learns the piano at home with her mum and has achieved a distinction for her grade 5.
In November 2009, Emilia competed in the Woking Music Festival and was awarded one of the two first ever Junior Young Musician Awards. She also won her cello class in the Kingston Music Festival.
Thanks to a generous donation from Future Talent, Emilia has been able to extend her lesson time. “I am very grateful to Future Talent for paying for my extra lesson time with Tony. The lessons are brilliant fun, but he is really demanding, too! We have been working hard on my technique, and we always talk lots about the music.” At the Academy, Emilia enjoys orchestra, chamber music, choir and musicianship classes in addition to her cello lessons, and she loves meeting up and working with her musical friends.
