Thomas Sutcliffe
Thomas started playing the cornet at the age of 7 and became principal cornet in the school band, performing at Manchester's Bridgewater Hall.
Following this he joined a variety of national award winning bands at Rochdale Music Service and began to play soprano cornet and trumpet. He has played at many prestigious venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall and the Bridgewater Hall, and has toured in Germany, Italy and Belgium.
He will be playing principal roles with Rochdale Youth Brass, Rochdale Schools Concert Orchestra and Rochdale Youth Wind and Big Bands until September 2009, when he begins a Music Performance degree at the RNCM.
Thomas is a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain conducted by Bramwell Tovey, and he also plays soprano cornet with the Championship Section Band, Norwest Co-op Milnrow Brass Band, who recently won the Senior Trophy at the Spring Festival British Open Qualifiers in Blackpool. Thomas has also recently joined the Big Shot Swing Orchestra, based in Rochdale, where he will play trumpet.
Thomas has been the Year 13 and Under Brass Champion at the Rochdale Music Festival for the past 2 years, which led to his nomination for a Future Talent award. He is honoured to have received the Silver Award for Rochdale, 2009, and this has enabled him to buy a York Eminence Bb Cornet and a Stomvi Elite Bb Trumpet. They will undoubtedly assist him in his future musical ambitions.
