Joy Becker

Joy begged to start the violin when she was five, after seeing Tasmin Little playing at the Bridgewater Hall, despite mum wanting her to play the cello.  When she was 10 she began three years of study at Chetham's School of Music.  Before that she had played in "The Jam Factory", a jazz group run by Steve Berry, the highlight of which was Joy's purple electric violin.

Now 15, Joy studies with Leland Chen, and is amember of the Junior RNCM, where she has lessons in aural, composition, piano and chamber music.  She currently leads the Hallé Youth Orchestra, a position she loves.  Joy has also performed the Bruch violin concerto with the Bolton Youth Orchestra.

Joy was the Future Champions Gold award winner for Bolton in 2008, and she hopes to pursue a career in music.  To hear Joy in action with the other winners at Ronnie Scott's last November, click here.

"Future Talent has definitely inspired me to take all opportunities with both hands, and go for anything, no matter how daunting or impossible it may seem."
