Catherine Turner
Catherine joined the Bolton Music Centre Junior Choir aged 7 and three years later began playing the Tenor horn. Four years ago s
he asked if she could begin playing the French Horn and commenced lessons with Simon Dunkley, who has continued to be her tutor to the present day. Catherine is currently Principal Horn with the Hallé Youth Orchestra and toured The Netherlands with them last summer, which immediately followed a tour of Missouri, USA with Bolton Brass Band. Catherine plays either French or Tenor Horn with most of the senior ensembles at Bolton Music Centre in addition to singing with the Bolton Youth Choir. She has also played Tenor Horn with the Besses o'th Barn Brass Band and Besses Boys Brass Band.
Catherine's highlight so far has been playing Brahma 2nd symphony at the Bridgewater Hall with the Hallé Youth Orchestra conducted by Ewa Stuwinska in April 2009.
After gaining a silver award from Future Talent, Catherine is going to use the money towards the purchase of a Paxman 23M French Horn for use at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama where she started studying for a BMus in performance in September, after being awarded a four year scholarship.
