Andrew Ashworth

Andrew started playing the cornet at school at the age of 7, and very quickly progressed to principal cornet in the school band.
He now plays repiano cornet with The Oldham Band Lees, performing many solos and also recording with them. He has won numerous trophies in slow melody contest, and recently became Oldham Area Junior Champion. Andrew has just been asked to play with Fairey's Band, a championship section brass band ranked 8th in the world. He will be touring to France with them in the summer.
He would like to compete for Young Musician of the Year in the future, and also hold the position of principal cornet with Black Dyke Mills Band, a position held for many years by his tutor, James Shepherd.
Andrew won the Future Champions Bronze award for Oldham in 2008, and has used his prize to buy a new instrument, a Besson Prestige Cornet. To hear him in action with the other winners at Ronnie Scott's, playing Gershwin's "Summertime" click here.
