Rhiannon Symonds

Rhiannon began learning the trombone and euphonium at the age of 8 and progressed quickly. After nine months of intense studying, she had passed her Grade 4 trombone exam and successfully auditioned for the National Children’s Brass Band of Great Britain. At the age of 10, Rhiannon had passed her Grade 7 trombone exam and grade 6 euphonium exam, both with Distinction, and won at the Bristol and the Abergavenny Eisteddfod’s. She has been awarded the Victoria College Rose Bowl for the most outstanding brass performance at the Hereford Festival, been a prize winner at brass competitions in Gwent, Oxford and Tameside and a regional finalist at the Texaco Young Musician of Wales 2008.

Having passed her Grade 8 Trombone exam with Distinction in March 2009 at the age of 11 years, Rhiannon has recently completed her first course as the youngest ever brass player in the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra Youth Orchestra. She is also looking forward to taking her place in the Greater Gwent Youth Big Band and Greater Gwent Youth Orchestra in the next few months, before taking her performance diploma in the summer 2010.

Rhiannon is a member of the National Children’s Brass Band of Great Britain, now on Euphonium, as well as a member of the Forest of Dean Area Wind Band, Forest of Dean Area Youth Brass Band, Greater Gwent Youth Symphonic Winds, Greater Gwent Youth Brass Band and Greater Gwent Schools Brass Ensemble.

Future Talent supports Rhiannon to study with specialist trombone and euphonium teachers to help her to develop her technical and performance skills.
