Darren Henley

Darren Henley is Managing Director of Classic FM and Group Director of Brand Innovations for the station's parent company, Global Radio.

He began his career at Invicta Radio in Kent, and his roles at Classic FM since 1992 have included Newsreader, Producer, News & Programme Manager, Managing Editor and Station Manager.

Darren is Chairman of the Music Manifesto Partnership and Advocacy Group, which campaigns to provide more opportunities for young people to lead musical lives.  He sits on the government's Music Programme Board and is a member of the steering group for In Harmony, a new DCSF project which tackles social deprivation through music education.  He is Vice Chairman of the Canterbury Festival and a trustee of Future Talent.  Darren also sits on the Media Board of the Prince's Foundation for Children & the Arts and the Business Development Board of the Philharmonia Orchestra.

Darren is the author of 18 books about classical music and musicians.  His radio programmes have been honoured by the Sony Radio Academy Awards, the Argiva Commercial Radio Awards, The New York International Radio Festival and the United Nations.  The American Audiobook Publishers Association consecutively named two of his audiobooks for children as Best Original Work in 2005 and 2006.  "The Story of Classical Music" also won the Radio Times Reader's Choice Award in 2005 and was nominated for a Grammy Award.
