William (tenor)
William is from Hovingham and began his musical life playing the clarinet. He then received singing lessons at Kirkham Henry Performing Arts Centre in Malton, North Yorkshire at the age of 13 and the progress he made in the first couple of years enabled Will to take his GCSE Music exam a year early, for which he achieved an A*. William also successfully gained a scholarship to Chetham’s School of Music for his 6th form studies. Having his talent finally recognised meant William gained a scholarship to study voice as his first instrument, with piano his second, and composition as a third. As a member of Chetham’s Chamber Choir, Will performed in concerts at the Bridgewater Hall and the Royal Albert Hall as part of the BBC Proms. William was also encouraged to and successfully auditioned for the National Youth Choir and funding from Future Talent enabled him to take up his place there.
William also performed at Future Talent festive showcase concert at Hovingham Hall in 2009.
“Thank you for funding my National Youth Choir course. I learnt so much and had some amazing experiences that would not have been possible without your help; from performing in Salisbury Cathedral, to recording a CD with the choir and even just the opportunity to be a part of such a vibrant and exciting organisation, where I could not help but learn and grow as a musician.” (William)
