Steve Pickett
Steve Pickett is the Education Director of the Hallé, a symphony orchestra founded in Manchester by Sir Charles Hallé in 1858. Steve presides over an education programme which many commentators have described as one of the most diverse and imaginative in the country.
Steve’s specialism is composition and much of his time is spent composing new music for Hallé players to perform alongside young musicians of all ages and abilities. Before Steve joined The Hallé in 2002 he was the Principal Contra Bassoon of the Ulster Orchestra, a post he held for nearly 21 years. In 2011 Steve was made joint chair of the Association of British Orchestras Education Managers group. The ABO exists to support, promote and advance the interests and activities of British Orchestras.
Steve Pickett has been a trustee of Future Talent since it’s inception back in 2004. He is married to Gill and they live in the Peak District and they have two older children. Ellen works for a web design company in New Zealand, whilst Christopher is currently a postgraduate support music teacher at Brighton College.
