Romana Hallstead (flugelhorn)
Romana is 14 years old and is a student at the Junior department of the Royal Northern College of Music, where she is studying trumpet and piano. She has also been lucky enough to represent to JRNCM as a soloist at various external concerts.
Romana’s favourite instrument is the flugelhorn which she plays in the Milnrow Brass Band at championship level. She also plays flugelhorn for the JRNCM brass band and the National Children’s Brass Band of Great Britain. Romana is hoping to gain a place in the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain.
Romana has used her funding from Future Talent to purchase a new instrument and since receiving support, Romana has been presented with the Ian McPherson prize at the JRNCM, presented for outstanding contribution to the JRNCM. She was also one of five musicians chosen to represent the JRNCM at a concert for the North Flyde Music Circle and she was also invited to perform as a guest soloist with the world famous Leyland Brass band, who are currently 8th in world brass band rankings. This performance resulted in her being offered the flugelhorn seat with the band, making Romana the youngest holder of a solo seat in the 15 top brass bands in the world.
In the future Romana hopes to play in one of the top brass bands or orchestras or even become a successful soloist.
