Richard (‘cello)

Richard is from London and had been studying at the Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama for three years when he applied to Future Talent for support. Future Talent was able to provide funding to enable Richard to continue his studies at Guildhall and also lent him a cello, which he used until he was able to buy his own instrument few years later.

As well as cello lessons at the Guildhall, Richard also received weekly lessons in music theory, rhythmics and ensemble work.  He made excellent progress in all his classes and as a result, was able to progress through his graded cello exams.  After finishing his studies at the Guildhall, Richard then studied cello privately and he continues to make fantastic progress. Richard is also very active in the school orchestra and choir which he thoroughly enjoys.

Richard is very dedicated to his cello studies and is also keen to start learning the clarinet. Richard’s musicality and determination has had a very positive impact on his family and his younger brother has been so influenced by Richard that he began cello studies at the Guildhall.

“Music and Art are my passions and will always play a great part in my life.” (Richard May)
