Nubya Garcia (jazz saxophone)
Nubya started playing the alto saxophone at the age of ten with the Camden Saturday Music Centre. After passing her Grade 8, she moved to study privately with Mark Hanslip, something that was made possible by funding from Future Talent. Nubya also attended the Royal Academy of Music Junior Jazz Department and whilst there, she performed at several venues  including Ronnie Scott’s. In 2009, Nubya was awarded a scholarship to attend the 5-week summer programme at Berklee College of Music in Boston USA, where she studied with Tiger Okoshi. Whilst there she was awarded a further substantial scholarship to attend the Berklee College of Music BA Music Performance programme upon completion of secondary school. In 2010 Nubya attended the National Youth Jazz Collective course where she studied composition with Izzie Barratt. In that same year, she also performed at Future Talent’s gala fundraising evening at Wimbledon. Nubya also plays the viola and was section Principal of her School Orchestra and a former member of the London School Symphony Orchestra.
