Melissa Mayer (‘cello)

Melissa started to play the piano at the age of three and when she was seven she also began to learn the cello. She made excellent progress and quickly progressed through all her graded exams. Melissa played in baroque chamber groups, string orchestras and the Oxford Sinfonia. She also successfully auditioned for the Oxfordshire County Youth Orchestra; however needed some help in order to enable her to take up her place for a further year. A bursary from Future Talent made her dreams come true. This has enabled Melissa to perform many more orchestral works including Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet

Since Future Talent began supporting Melissa, she has also had the opportunity to perform the Haydn Cello concerto with baroque chamber group Oxy Baroxy.

“The zenith of my cello playing life has been getting into OCYO (Oxfordshire County Youth Orchestra) and this year the orchestra will be touring around Madrid. Future Talent has now enabled me to continue this fantastic experience for another year where it would not have been possible otherwise!” (Melissa Mayer)
