Gideon Brooks (trumpet)
Gideon began playing the trumpet at the age of 8 as a direct result of a visit from a brass teacher working for the West Sussex Music Service. After joining the Chichester Junior Brass Band Gideon then progressed to the Concert Band, Swing Band, Chamber Orchestra and West Sussex County Big Band. At the age of 14, Gideon went on tour to Italy with the Chichester Youth Concert Band as part of the West Sussex Music Centre.
In 2009, Gideon gained a place to study trumpet at the Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama, partly thanks to a bursary from Future Talent. Gideon currently plays with the Junior Guildhall Symphony Orchestra, Brass Band and their Brass Chamber Ensemble and he has taken part in many performances, concerts, and recitals, as well as masterclasses with international trumpet soloists and orchestral brass musicians. Gideon has recently gained Grade 8 with Distinction on trumpet and also studies the piano and singing.
Gideon now holds the Principal trumpet seat with the West Sussex County Youth Orchestra and the county’s Jazz Band as lead trumpet. Gideon is also a member of the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain.
