Christopher (tuba)

Christopher is from Bolton and had been playing the tuba for five years when he approached Future Talent for support. He could not afford to own his own tuba and consequently was having to borrow instruments from Bolton Music Service and his school. Both instruments had their own ‘quirks’ which took a while to get used to and having to constantly swap was having a huge impact on Christopher’s development.

Christopher was also due to audition for a place at the Royal Northern College of Music Junior Department. If successful, he would need to own his own tuba and so it was clear to see that he needed help. Future Talent was able to give Christopher funding to purchase his own instrument and he was also given full support to ensure that he sourced the best possible instrument at the best price.

Since owning his own tuba, Christopher has made excellent progress. He began studies at the Royal Northern and also secured a place with the National Youth and National Childrens Brass Bands of Great Britain He holds the position of Principal tuba in the Flixton Brass Band and has also been asked to play Principal Bb tuba for Yorkshire Youth Brass Band.

Christopher is also confident he will be offered many more chances to play for prestigious brass bands and he hopes that one day he will secure a place in a championship section brass band or a top orchestra.

“My aspirations are very much the same as they were when I applied for funding from Future Talent and with your help my aspirations could become a reality” (Christopher)
