Catherine Turner (french horn)

When she applied for support from Future Talent, Catherine had a guaranteed place to study for a BMus in Musical Performance at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, as well as three other conservatoires. This was obviously a great opportunity for Catherine; however as she didn’t own her own French Horn, she was using an instrument that was on loan from Bolton Music Service.  This instrument was only available to her during her time with the Music Service and consequently, had to be returned before she started college. As a result, Catherine would have been going to college with no instrument, which would have made her time there almost impossible.

Receiving funding from Future Talent provided Catherine with the remaining funding she needed to purchase a new French Horn and in September 2009, she took up her place at the Royal Scottish Academy.

“My aspirations for the future are to continue with a musical career… I would love to have a career as a performer and also to teach music to others. Music is the biggest single influence in my life.” (Catherine Turner)
