Philip Lawrence Awards
December 2009 marked Future Talent’s inaugural performance at the annual Philip Lawrence Awards. The Hackney African Drummers which Future Talent has been supporting for several years, opened the second half of the ceremony with a spectacular performance which ended in a standing ovation from the audience – the only one of the entire ceremony!
The Philip Lawrence Awards is a national scheme recognising groups that are making a real contribution to their local community and to the lives of others. The scheme was set up in memory of head teacher Philip Lawrence, who was killed in December 1995. Philip Lawrence inspired many young people, and the Awards commemorate his deeply held conviction that all young people are capable of achieving great things.
Since 1997, the scheme has supported over 1,000 young people in the UK and Future Talent is delighted to be involved.
